Irezumi Created by: Collin Bockmoore Made possible by support from: Shelterplanners This Labrador is wearing Virginia like a tattoo. Artist Collin Bockmore transformed this statue using irezumi, the centuries-old Japanese tattooing tradition known for bold black backgrounds, flowing waves, and intricate linework. Within that distinctive style, he wove together three symbols of Virginia: the cardinal, the dogwood, and the trout. One side features a leaping trout, with scales rendered in teal, yellow, and coral as it cuts through classic irezumi wave swells. The other showcases a cardinal perched on a dogwood branch, its red plumage standing out against the black background and framed by white dogwood blossoms and intricate scrollwork. The face is finished with remarkable detail in the fur and eyes. This is a statue designed to be explored from every angle, with a completely different composition waiting on each side. Its bold design and Virginia-inspired details make it a true statement piece for a home, garden, or business.
