Rocco Created by: Helen Matheson Hilliard Made possible by support from: Mary Minor Henderson This Labrador has wings—and a halo to match. Artist Helen Hilliard Matheson transformed Rocco into a stunning stained-glass-inspired work of art. The body is covered in painted panels, each outlined in dark leading to mimic the look of a traditional Tiffany-style window. Blues, greens, and teals shift across the Labrador, creating the luminous effect of colored glass. A single sweeping wing stretches across the side in warm shades of yellow, amber, and orange, with each feather carefully detailed. Above the head, a slim copper halo completes the design—a tribute to St. Rocco, traditionally associated with healing and known as a patron saint of dogs. The contrast between the richly colored body and the dark, grounded legs gives the sculpture an especially striking presence. It’s a piece that changes with the light, making the details and colors come alive from different angles. Rocco would make a memorable addition to an entryway, sunny window, garden, or special place in your home or business. The intricate panel work and unexpected combination of stained-glass imagery, wings, and halo make this a truly distinctive Labrador—and one you’ll want to keep looking at.
