Downtown Dylan Created by: Niamh Oswalt Made possible by support from: Magpie Knits A little bit of Charlottesville, captured on four paws. Artist Niamh Oswalt created Downtown Dylan as a tribute to the places, memories, and landmarks that make Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall so special. Inspired by iconic images of the Mall as well as her own childhood memories, the sculpture is filled with familiar sights and personal touches. Every section offers something to discover, bringing together some of the artist’s favorite Downtown Mall “haunts.” Look closely and you’ll find iconic landmarks and hidden details woven throughout the design. As Oswalt puts it, to include all of her favorite places, she would have needed a bigger dog! Downtown Dylan is a celebration of Charlottesville itself—a piece that will feel especially meaningful to longtime residents while offering anyone who loves this community a colorful way to bring a little piece of the Downtown Mall home. Whether displayed in a home, garden, office, or business, this one-of-a-kind Labrador is sure to spark memories and conversation. Take your time exploring the details, and you may just discover one of your own favorite Charlottesville spots.
