Signal Created by: Abby Kasonik Made possible by support from: Rockpile Construction Stare long enough and the stripes start to move. Artist Abby Kasonik transformed this Labrador into a striking optical illusion using a network of concentric black-and-white lines. Bold bands ripple outward from the joints and curve around the body like a maze, creating a pattern that shifts and changes across every section of the statue. The effect is different from every angle. In some places, the lines seem to flatten the Labrador’s form; in others, they appear to warp and distort it. What looks like one pattern from across the room becomes something entirely different when you move closer or change your perspective. Signal explores the space between what we expect to see and what we discover when we slow down and really look. It’s a piece that invites interaction—you’ll want to walk around it, photograph it, and see how the illusion changes. With its bold graphic design and ever-changing appearance, Signal would be a memorable addition to a home, garden, office, or business. No two views are quite the same, making this a one-of-a-kind piece you’ll keep finding new ways to see.
